FRISCO — A Big 12 media days takeaway from Monday:
Texas Tech’s Kliff Kingsbury wins the award for holding his tongue. After a reporter asked him point-blank about the Red Raiders’ porous defense (“Why can’t you get 10, 15 or 20 [players] who can hold your opponents to 30 points or less a game?”), Kingsbury laughed.
“That’s a great question,” Kingsbury said.
Well, the question still stands. Offense isn’t Tech’s problem; it’s the defense. The Raiders ranked dead last nationally last season after allowing 43.5 points per game.
“I think more than anything, you’ve got to recruit tacklers,” he said. “That’s the key.”
If Kingsbury can’t find some tacklers this season, Tech officials may be tackling the coach’s buyout.
