Will Sonny Cumbie join the Texas staff? A Tuesday morning update
Posted December 8th, 2015
Yesterday, TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie was on the 40 Acres for an interview with head coach Charlie Strong.
A source close to Cumbie told the American-Statesman that Cumbie visited Texas’ campus on Monday and met with Strong about becoming Texas’ offensive coordinator. Previously, it reportedly was the second discussion between Strong and Cumbie in less than a day, as both 247Sports and Horns Digest reported that Strong was in Fort Worth on Sunday evening interviewing Cumbie.
The Statesman’s Kirk Bohls has a couple Tuesday morning updates on the probability of Cumbie becoming the Horns playcaller:
On Cumbie’s deliberation:
Those who know TCU co-OC Sonny Cumbie not surprised because he deliberates long, hard. In his nature.

More on Cumbie’s deliberation:
"That's just who Sonny is," Texas source says. "I wouldn't read anything into it (delayed decision) just yet."

Another possible candidate for the OC position:
But also hearing Charlie Strong likes Tulsa OC Sterlin Gilbert "a lot." So there's that. TCU still in the dark about Cumbie's decision.

Gilbert is currently the co-offensive coordinator at Tulsa – he joined the staff in December 2014. Prior to joining the Hurricanes, he coached at Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois.
