Sterlin Gilbert turns down offer to become Texas’ offensive coordinator

One day after multiple reports linked Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert accepting the offensive coordinator position at Texas, the Statesman has confirmed he has declined the Horns’ offer. ESPN’s Gerry Hamilton was the first to report that Gilbert would stay with the Golden Hurricane. According to the Statesman’s Brian Davis, Gilbert was offered the job Thursday night.

Two days earlier, TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie was offered the same position, and also rejected the Horns’ plans for him as the head offensive coach on the 40 Acres. Charlie Strong interviewed a third candidate for the position on Thursday – California OC Tony Franklin.
