According to multiple reports, Charlie Strong has filled his final vacancy on his coaching staff. Both 247Sports and footballscoop.com have reported that Clay Jennings will be hired by Texas to be the defensive backs coach. Jennings will replace Chris Vaughn who was fired by Strong last week after Vaughn was implicated in an ongoing NCAA investigation of Mississippi.
Jennings, 42, comes to Texas from Arkansas where he served two years on Bret Bielema’s staff. Before his time at Arkansas, Jennings coached cornerbacks at TCU from 2008-2013. He has previous experience at Baylor, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette and Sam Houston State. He was a four-year letterwinner at North Texas as a defensive lineman.
Arkansas’ team defense in 2015 was ranked 58th in the nation in total defense and 68th in scoring defense.
