DeSoto OL Xavier Newman commits to Texas

DeSoto’s Xavier Newman, one of the top offensive line prospects in the state, announced Wednesday on Twitter that he was committing to Texas.
Newman held offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Colorado.
“First and foremost I want to thank God all the abilities and skills he has blessed me with,” Newman said in a posting on Twitter. “Next I want to thank my family, coaches, teachers and friends who have sacrificed to help transform and shape me into the young man I am. Finally, I would like to say thanks to all of the collegiate programs that showed interest and consideration to me throughout the recruiting process.
“After much prayer and talking it over with my family I have decided to further my education and football career at the University of Texas!!”

Then, Texas coach Charlie Strong tweeted, “Longhorn Nation just got a huge new addition!”
Offensive line coach Matt Mattox also tweeted, “Big time addition to the Longhorn family! It all starts up front, and this guy knows how to FINISH!!”
Newman (6-foot-2, 272 pounds) becomes Texas’ sixth commitment in the 2017 signing class. 247Sports considers Newman to be the nation’s 14th-best offensive guard prospect and 45th-best player in Texas.
