Baseball coach David Pierce bringing Tulane assistants to Texas

Sean Allen, Philip Miller have both worked for Pierce in similar roles the last five years at Sam Houston State, Tulane

Posted July 1st, 2016

New Texas baseball coach David Pierce is bringing his two trusted assistants Sean Allen and Philip Miller to Austin, the school announced Friday.

Allen and Miller both worked alongside Pierce the last five years at Sam Houston State and Tulane. Earlier this week, Allen left Tulane to join the Alabama coaching staff. But that changed once Pierce got the Texas job on Wednesday.

“People have been recognizing their efforts and abilities for years, and the University of Texas baseball program will benefit by having both Sean and Philip in burnt orange,” Pierce said in a statement.

Allen, 37, has 15 years coaching experience at the collegiate level. He will serve as UT’s recruiting coordinator and be the team’s hitting and infield coach, Pierce said. He’s held the same roles under Pierce since 2012.

Miller, 33, will be an assistant hitting coach and work with catchers and outfielders. Pierce has been his own pitching coach in his previous coaching stops.

Pierce also will retain Drew Bishop as the team’s director of baseball operations. Bishop was a four-year letterman under Augie Garrido (2005-08) and moved into his current role in 2009.
