Let’s use Texas’ roster, history and scouting reports to countdown to the start of the 2017 football season. Today, we are only 29 days away from Texas’ home game against Maryland.
Which Longhorn wears No. 29? Freshman DB Josh Thompson, who is a four-star signee out of Nacogdoches. Sophomore Josh Covey wore that number last year when the East View product – and electrical engineering major – was a receiver. Now that Covey is one of three walk-on quarterbacks on Texas’ roster, he is wearing No. 18.
Who also wears No. 29? Oklahoma State P Zach Sinor (42.8 YPP in 2016); TCU P Adam Nunez (39.6 YPP); Kansas LB Joe Dineen, Jr. (16 tackles)
Fun fact about No. 29: In 2006, Colt McCoy threw for 29 touchdown during his freshman year at Texas. McCoy and Shane Buechele, who accounted for 21 aerial scores last year, are the only Texas quarterbacks who topped 20 touchdown passes during their freshmen years.
