The countdown to kickoff is on. Over the 100 days before Texas takes on Maryland, we’re counting down the 100 best players the Longhorns will face in 2017. This series is all about impressing your friends at pregame tailgates and watch parties, so grab a notepad and buckle up.
Who is he?
Ee-MAT-tor-bay-bay. USC tight end Daniel Imatorbhebhe’s name may be difficult to spell, but it’s infinitely fun to say. Chances are you’ll be hearing it a lot this season. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound redshirt sophomore is one of the largest targets for USC quarterback Sam Darnold, who is the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Last year, Imatorbhebhe had 17 catches for 250 yards and four touchdowns. His breakout performance came late in the season against eventual Pac 12 champion Washington, when he caught five passes for 78 yards and a score.
What should the Longhorns watch for?
Imatorbhebhe is a matchup nightmare. He moves exceptionally well for a big man, and Darnold likes to find him on jump balls and passes downfield. Watching his highlights, the way he goes after those passes looks more like a receiver than a tight end. That skill set could be very important for the Trojans, who beyond Deontay Burnett are still looking for some reliable wideouts.
