FIRST QUARTER

Texas 7, San Jose State 0: Sam Ehlinger, starting his first game because of Shane Buechele’s shoulder injury, misfired on his first three passes before he found Armanti Foreman for 18 yards on UT’s second drive. After the first two drives ended in punts, Ehlinger and Jerrod Heard — remember him? — led the Horns on a nine-play drive that featured a fourth-down conversion and an impressive Chris Warren III hurdle of a defender. It ended with Heard’s first touchdown run since November 2015. Texas held SJSU to 20 yards on the Spartans’ three drives.

UT: Jerrod Heard 9-yard run (Joshua Rowland kick, 2:56)

SECOND QUARTER

Halftime: Texas 21, San Jose State 0. Texas kept its shutout intact even though the Spartans made one serious scoring march into the red zone. But Malik Jefferson and Gerald Wilbon stuffed DeJon Parker’s leap over the line on a fourth-and-1 from Texas’ 10. Warren scored on a big 41-yard run, his longest of the game.

UT: Chris Warren III 41-yard run (Rowland kick, 12:28)

UT: Heard 3-yard run (Rowland kick, :16)

THIRD QUARTER

Texas 35, San Jose State 0: Texas put the game out of reach with its first drive of the second half, a 16-play, 92-yarder that was its longest drive of the day. It ended with Kyle Porter’s first career touchdown. But the quarter wasn’t perfect for the Longhorns; Joshua Rowland missed a 43-yard field goal try, his third miss in two games. Still, two plays after that, Holton Hill became the first UT player since 2009 to score on two interception returns in the same season.

UT: Kyle Porter 3-yard run (Rowland kick, 6:48)

UT: Holton Hill 45-yard interception return (Rowland kick, :48)

FOURTH QUARTER

Final: Texas 56, San Jose State 0. Ehlinger completed passes of 27 and 23 yards to set up Warren’s second score of the day and the Longhorns made it 49-0 on a 1-yard shovel pass to Armanti Foreman — Ehlinger’s first career touchdown pass — that came on a short-field drive sparked by a Spartans fumble on the kickoff. Freshman back Toneil Carter scored the final touchdown of the day in mop-up duty.

UT: Warren 9-yard run (Rowland kick, 13:10)

UT: Armanti Foreman 1-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger (Rowland kick, 12:08)

UT: Toneil Carter 4-yard run (Rowland kick, 2:46)
