Texas quarterback Shane Buechele suffered a sprained ankle injury on Thursday against Iowa State, the school announced.
The better news for the Longhorns? He’s wearing a protective boot and is not expected to miss any practice time this week in preparation for Kansas State.
The school made the announcement Saturday afternoon. Ironically, Buechele played the entire game against the Cyclones and then met reporters while standing up for 10 minutes. It’s a general rule for training staffs to put protective boot on anyone with any ankle pain whatsoever.
Buechele completed 19 of 26 passes for 171 yards and threw one touchdown pass in a 17-7 win over Iowa State. He also ran 13 times for 42 yards and took an extreme shot to the head at one point.
Buechele, a sophomore, missed the two previous games with a bruised throwing shoulder. Freshman backup Sam Ehlinger started against San Jose State and USC for Texas.
