With three days to go until a trip to meet Baylor, Texas’ injury report isn’t much clearer.
Freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger and sophomore center Zach Shackelford did not practice on Wednesday said a Texas spokesperson who added the players were showing progress. Ehlinger and Shackelford were placed in the concussion protocol following an overtime loss to Oklahoma State on Oct. 21.
Ehlinger has thrown for 1,419 yards and rushed for 261 yards over his five starts at Texas. He is also tied to eight of the 23 touchdowns scored this year by the Longhorns.
If Ehlinger is unable to play, sophomore Shane Buechele will return to the starting line-up. Texas offensive coordinator Tim Beck also told reporters on Wednesday that quarterback-turned-receiver Jerrod Heard had taken some snaps at the quarterback position in practice.
Shackelford has started six times this year, and he missed a 40-34 win over Kansas State on Oct. 7 with an ailing ankle. Freshman receiver Reggie Hemphill-Mapps (sprained knee) also participated in non-contact drills on Wednesday.
