Football fans making the trip to Waco on Saturday morning may need to budget extra time into their travel plans.
A portion of I-35 will close on Friday night and won’t open until Saturday morning. Initial estimates on my35construction.org had a section of the interstate in Round Rock closed until 10 a.m. on Saturday. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation, however, told the American-Statesman that she anticipates the northbound lane opening around 7 a.m.
Texas is set to play Baylor at Waco’s McLane Stadium at 11 a.m.

A construction project on FM 3406 will divert traffic onto a frontage road. Traffic will be allowed back onto the highway at the next exit.
The demolition of the bridge on Old Settlers Boulevard will be the focal point of this weekend’s work. Construction crews will be working overnight on the south side of the bridge, which should allow the interstate’s northbound lane to open earlier.
