About the series: Butler won the only game in series history in what proved to be the final game in coach Rick Barnes’ 17-season tenure at Texas. The Bulldogs didn’t score a field goal for 11 minutes, 39 seconds during one stretch but still pulled out a 57-48 win in an NCAA tournament game in Pittsburgh.

About the Longhorns: Coach Shaka Smart openly admitted how this will be a major step up in competition. “This week for the first time we’ll see a level of adversity within games,” he said. It will be interesting to see how Smart divides the minutes. All eleven scholarship players got double-digit minutes on average in the first three games. Smart has typically used an eight-man rotation, although this team’s depth is a strength. … Texas is likely to have a big fan in the stands. Kamaka Hepa, a 6-foot-9 forward who just signed a national letter of intent, lives in Portland.

About the Bulldogs: Butler’s only loss this season came at Maryland, 79-65. The Bulldogs bounced back with a win over Furman in which they shot a season-high 57.4 percent from the floor. … McDermott has scored 17 points in back-to-back games by hitting 8 of 14 shots from 3-point range combined. … Butler has some firepower off the bench, too. Paul Jorgensen scored a career-high 16 points against Furman on 7 of 10 shooting. … This will be a major test for Texas’ frontcourt. Butler has an 82-point advantage over opponents this season in points in the paint.
