Longhorns acquire instant help at offensive tackle with Mikey Grandy

Posted December 20th, 2017

Texas needs immediate help at offensive tackle heading into the 2018 season. The Longhorns took steps towards filling future needs at the position with signatures from prep products Rafiti Ghirmai, Reese Moore and Junior Angilau. Still, it didn’t seem like enough.

Tom Herman’s staff made one last splash at the position by adding JUCO offensive tackle Mikey Grandy from the College of San Mateo in California. The three-star product chose the Longhorns over UCLA. At 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds, Grandy should compete for the left tackle spot vacated by Connor Williams.

Grandy is the No. 50-ranked overall JUCO prospect in the country and the No. 9-ranked offensive tackle at a JUCO, per 247Sports Composite. Grandy took an official visit to Texas on Dec. 15 after visiting UCLA on Dec. 9. Getting the last visit paid dividends for the Longhorn staff.

Grandy is Texas’ 20th commitment of the 2018 cycle, with most choosing to sign national letter of intents on the first day of the first national signing day.
