Texas junior Breckyn Hager will help the Longhorns honor the late Tommy Nobis in the Texas Bowl.
For UT’s match-up against Missouri, Hager will wear the No. 60 that Nobis wore while playing at Texas from 1963-65. Nobis, the legendary Longhorn linebacker who died earlier this month, had his number retired in 2008. Texas coach Tom Herman, though, received the permission of Nobis’ wife, Lynn, to bring the number out of retirement for UT’s first bowl game since 2014.
All Texas players will also wear “60” decals on the back of their helmets.
“It’s going to be a special night with our guys wearing a number 60 helmet decal and having a Longhorn legacy player like Breckyn, whose father Britt wore the number during his All-American career, in a 60 jersey for this game,” Herman said in a statement. “We join everyone in paying tribute to a beloved Longhorn and a great man.”
Honor. Respect. Tradition. The number 60 represents each of these pillars for the Texas Longhorns. Tonight the number 60 returns to Texas and will be worn by LB Breckyn Hager in honor of the late Tommy Nobis. pic.twitter.com/4X0d5fWisk

Hager is the son of former Texas All-American linebacker Britt Hager. Britt Hager also honored Nobis by wearing No. 60 from 1984-88. A defensive lineman, Breckyn Hager normally wears No. 44.
Hager’s four sacks are tied for the team lead. Eight of his 19 tackles have been for a loss.
