About the series: Texas leads the all-time series 19-16, but it’s been lopsided in Iowa State’s favor in recent years. The Cyclones are 6-2 in the last eight games. The Horns have not won in Ames since 2010.

About the Longhorns: Texas simply needs more from its guards. Young has scored only 12 points in the last three games and was 5 for 22 shooting combined. Eric Davis Jr. was 2 for 10 shooting against Kansas. Andrew Jones must make his presence felt against Iowa State, too. Jase Febres did not play after averaging 12.9 minutes in non-conference. … Dylan Osetkowski didn’t have a good first half against Kansas, either. He finished with 17 points, though. “I always tell him to let your hair down and attack,” coach Shaka Smart said. … Freshman Jericho Sims has grabbed only two rebounds the last two games.

About the Cyclones: This is a completely new team as Solomon Young is the team’s only returning starter from last year. Young has 16 points in Iowa State’s Big 12-opening loss to Kansas State. … Nick Weiler-Babb is playing his best basketball this season. He’s averaging career highs in points, rebounds and assists and was named the MVP at the Puerto Rico Tip-off tournament. … Canadian-born Lindell Wigginton is the second-best scoring freshman in the Big 12. … Hilton Coliseum is hard for everyone. The Cyclones have won 25 of the last 31 Big 12 home games. ISU is also 46-3 when leading at halftime under coach Steve Prohm.
