Thanks to a lengthy punt return, Texas freshman D’Shawn Jamison stood out among his peers in the Big 12 on Monday.
The Big 12 has named Jamison its special teams player of the week. This is the first weekly award earned by Jamison, a true freshman from Houston. Texas has received the conference’s weekly defensive and newcomer honors this fall, but a Longhorn last won Jamison’s award in 2016 (Michael Dickson).
In a 19-14 win over Kansas State on Saturday, Jamison guided Texas to an early lead when he scored on a 90-yard punt return. The punt return was the fourth-longest in school history.

The 90-yard touchdown was Jamison’s only punt return against the Wildcats. He averaged 18.5 yards over two kickoff returns and lost 14 yards on a second-quarter reception. A four-star recruit in high school, Jamison signed with Texas as a defensive back but has been used this season on offense and special teams.
