After compiling wins and kills last week, Texas outside hitters Ebony Nwanebu and Micaya White accumulated accolades on Monday.
Nwanebu, a junior, was tabbed as the Big 12’s co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, while White shared the conference’s weekly award for its top freshman. Nwanebu was honored alongside Baylor’s Katie Staiger this week, while White shared her award with West Virginia outside hitter Payton Caffrey.
Both three-time winners, White and Caffrey are the only players to earn the Big 12 Freshman of the Week award this season.
Nwanebu hit .476 with 33 kills in last week’s wins over West Virginia and Kansas. White had a team-high 18 kills in the 3-1 win at West Virginia, and her 22 kills led the Longhorns in their 3-1 win over nationally-ranked Kansas on Saturday.
Texas (10-2) also climbed a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s national poll on Monday. The fourth-ranked Longhorns – who are the highest-ranked team that doesn’t play in the Big Ten – will travel to Oklahoma and Kansas State this week.
