In the November of 1955, then-UT head cheerleader Harley Clark introduced what would become Texas’ most famous hand gesture — the Hook ‘Em Horns sign.
Almost 60 years later, the hand sign has been immortalized not just by the tens of thousands of students and alumni who use it and have used it, but also by Apple.
Nowhere does Apple explicitly state the above emoji, which was released along with 149 other emojis in Apple’s iOS 9.1 update today, is in fact a nod to the famous Longhorn sign.
But they also don’t explicitly say otherwise.
Its golden yellow is not as burnt orange as we would like, but we will use it for all of our Longhorn needs.
Also of note in today’s update: the long-awaited taco emoji.
