Texas women’s golf team shoots 1 over par, in sixth place in New Orleans

The Texas women’s golf team moved up to sixth place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate after shooting 1 over par in the second round on Monday in New Orleans.

11th-ranked Florida shot a 7-under 281, the third lowest score in program history, and is in the lead at 7 under par. Oklahoma State is in second place, seven shots behind the Gators. Texas entered the second round in ninth place and followed an opening round 297 with a 289. The Longhorns are seventeen strokes behind at 10 over par.

UT’s Haley Mills had three birdies and an eagle in her final five holes to finish with a 2-under par 70. Mills is tied for seventh place at 2-under par and is four strokes behind leader Lauren Kim of Stanford. Kim carded a 70 on Monday and is one stroke ahead of Alabama’s Emma Talley.

Longhorn Sophia Schubert made four birdies, had one bogey and finished with a 3-under 69. Schubert, who entered the second round in 68th place after an opening round 78, is tied for 33rd place at 3 over par. Teammate Natalie Karcher shot even par in the second round and is tied for 39th place at 4 over par. Longhorn Tezira Abe shot 6 over par on Monday and UT’s Julia Beck carded a 7-over par 79.
