Texas guard Isaiah Taylor has been named to the preseason Wooden Award list, signifying his status among the top 50 players in college basketball.
Taylor, a third-team All-Big 12 pick last season, led the Longhorns in scoring (13.1), assists (4.6), steals (23) and minutes (31.5) last season. In UT’s season opener, he scored 27 points and was 12 for 15 from the free throw line.
Taylor thought about jumping into the NBA draft last season but returned to UT primarily because of new coach Shaka Smart.
“Coach and I, he wants us to be connected,” Taylor said after last week’s Washington game. “We think we can be best duos in the country, me and Shaka Smart.”
Perry Ellis (Kansas), Rico Gathers and Taurean Prince (Baylor), Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) and Danuel House (Texas A&M) were also included on the Wooden list.
