Let’s use Texas’ roster, history and scouting reports to countdown to the start of the 2017 football season. Today, we are only 53 days away from Texas’ home game against Maryland.
Which Longhorn wears No. 53? Junior deep snapper Jak Holbrook, a McCallum graduate who appeared in all of Texas’ games during an up-and-down 2016 season. Holbrook isn’t the first deep snapper to wear No. 53 at Texas since that was Nick Schroeder’s number on Texas’ 2005 title team.
Who also wears No. 53? West Virginia OL Colton McKivitz (10 starts in 2016); Texas Tech DS Kyle Heffron (12 starts)
Fun fact about No. 53: Texas has gone 53 games without a pass-catcher earning consecutive 100-yard games. (Mike Davis last pulled off that feat in 2012 against Texas Tech and Iowa State). Three UT receivers had a 100-yard performance in 2016, but none of those players topped 28 yards in their follow-up game.
