Jerrod Heard ‘all smiles’ in transition to wide receiver

Posted August 13th, 2016

Charlie Strong said Jerrod Heard has displayed “unbelievable attitude” after voluntarily moving to wide receiver from quarterback.

The way Strong tells the story, Heard, who was running a distant third at quarterback behind Tyrone Swoopes and Shane Buechele, initiated a conversation last week about a position switch. When Heard asked Strong if he could move to receiver, Strong replied, “Most certainly you can.”

“He’s been all smiles about it,” Strong said.

Strong said Heard is still getting some reps at quarterback, where he started 10 games in 2015 with mixed results. However, it sounds like both sides are ready to move on and employ Heard’s athleticism elsewhere on the field. And Strong is convinced he’ll make a fine pass-catcher.

“Oh yes,” he said. “He’s an athlete. Oh yeah. His attitude is he wants to do it and he wants to show us he can do it.”
