Joe Baker to miss 4-6 weeks with stress fracture

Posted March 23rd, 2016

Texas second baseman Joe Baker will miss 4-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, according to Longhorns coach Augie Garrido.

In Baker’s stead, Zane Gurwitz played second base in Tuesday’s win over UTSA and will continue to do so in this weekend’s series against TCU. Tyler Rand, who may be back this weekend from a wrist injury, would take over for Gurwitz at center field.

Baker is hitting .314, third on the team. It’s unclear when he sustained the injury, but it was likely either when he tripped over the first base umpire against Tulane on Saturday or days earlier when he was hit by a pitch in the foot at practice.
