The Texas women’s golf team moved up one spot to finish in fifth place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Tuesday in New Orleans, La. Haley Mills led the Longhorns as she finished in a tie for third place.
Mills finished at 4-under par, just one shot out of first place. Sarah Burnham of Michigan State and Sydney Cavin of LSU tied for medalist honors ahead of Mills. Mills shot 70 for the second straight round to finish at 212 for the tournament. It was her third finish in the top six places so far this season as she bested six players individually ranked in the top-20.
As a team the Longhorns shot 293 on the day, finishing at 879, 15 shots over par. Florida won the tournament at 862, two under par.
Natalie Karcher had the second-best finish for Texas at 220, 4-over, for a tie for 25th place. It was her best finish of the season so far.
Sophia Schubert finished in a tie for 31st at 221, 5-over. Julia Beck tied for 69th place at 15-over while Tezira Abe finished in 76th at 17-over.
The Longhorns will next compete at the University of North Florida Collegiate tournament beginning on March 7 in Jacksonville, Fla. The tournament runs through March 8.
