Texas ended a five-year drought on Sunday, capturing its first Big 12 women’s golf championship since 2011.

The Longhorns finished the final round with a score of 294 to defeat runner-up Iowa State by seven strokes. This is Texas’ fourth Big 12 title and 13th all-time conference championship.

Freshman Emilee Hoffman and junior Sophia Schubert led the Longhorns with top-five finishes. Hoffman was the medalist runner-up while Schubert tied for fifth place.

Hoffman made 11 birdies in the tournament and had a round of 71 on Sunday to finish 1-over par. She finished three strokes behind individual champion Dylan Kim of Baylor, who had a final-round 68 and finished 2-under par.

Schubert earned her fourth top-five finish this season and third straight. She shot a final round 77 for a two-day total 220 (plus-4). Senior Haley Mills finished 12th at 8-over par while freshman Greta Volker finished 26th at 13-over par and senior Julia Beck finished tied for 31st at 15-over par.

“It feels great,” said Texas coach Ryan Murphy of winning the Big 12 championship. “This tournament is hard to win. I don’t care who you are – great teams and great coaches – they don’t always win. … I feel fortunate and hope its the first of several for us.”

Texas will learn his postseason standing on Thursday. The selection show will be televised live on the Golf Channel at 10 a.m.
