Texas is among three state teams to be ranked in the Associated Press preseason poll that was released on Tuesday.
The Longhorns will open the season Nov. 14 against UTSA as the No. 12 team in the nation. Baylor checks in at No. 5 and Texas A&M No. 13.
It was no surprise that Connecticut ranks No. 1 for the 11th time in school history. The Huskies received first-place votes from a panel of 32 journalists — including the American-Statesman.
Rounding out the top five are South Carolina at No. 2, Notre Dame No. 3, Tennessee at No. 4 and Baylor.
Texas will have an intra-squad scrimmage at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Erwin Center.
