The headline: Texas strikes early to down Weber State
Where it went right: Everything went right from the start for the Longhorns. Since moving to the lead off position in the batting order on Saturday, Lindsey Stephens is 5 for 7 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and five RBIs. She led off the game with a solo home run to right field and then blasted a two-run double in the second to give Texas a comfortable lead. The pitching staff of Tiarra Davis and Paige von Sprecken put together a brilliant performance, allowing just four base runners.
The starter: Davis threw four innings and struck out four batters. The junior controlled the plate and only allowed two hits, getting Weber State to hit in to a plethora of ground balls. Von Sprecken came in for relief in the fifth inning and was perfect in three innings of work. The sophomore struck out two batters, but retired all nine batters she faced.
Top hitter: Lindsey Stephens went 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the first inning and a two-RBI double in the second. The senior from Beaumont broke out of her slump Saturday with a 3 for 4 performance at the plate in an 8-1 win over Illinois.
Key stat: Texas pitching staff allowed just four base runners. Davis gave up two hits and walked two batters.
Up next: 6 p.m., Wednesday at Texas State
