As Charlie Strong closed out his 2016 recruiting class this afternoon, reporters interviewed linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary and asked how well the freshman class at Texas helped bring signees to Austin. Linebacker Malik Jefferson was the head recruit of that class, and from the sound of it, might have been the lead recruiter this year as well. Jean-Mary proclaimed Jefferson as the “unofficial mayor of Austin right now.”
Jean-Mary on Malik as UT recruiter: "I know he is the unofficial mayor of Austin right now. But I think our whole team did a great job."

Later Wednesday in response to that statement, the real mayor of Austin wanted to make sure he was still, well, the mayor of the city:
But not the official one, right? https://t.co/OQ4gYOYpju
