Malik Jefferson named to Bednarik Award watch list

Posted July 5th, 2016

Add one more award to Texas’ Malik Jefferson’s preseason accolades.

On Monday morning, Jefferson was added to the Bednarik Award preseason watch list. The award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive player, has never been won by a Longhorn.

The honor comes on the heels of being named to the Sporting News’ first-team preseason all-american team on Friday and a subsequent congratulations by Gov. Greg Abbott.

Jefferson finished last year with 61 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He was named to freshman All-American teams by Football Writers of Association of America and ESPN at the end of the 2015 season.
