Texas had a leg up on its competition over the weekend.
Texas senior Trent Domingue hit the game-winning 39-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining in a 35-34 win over Baylor this past week. Sophomore punter Michael Dickson and junior Mitchell Becker also had solid showings on Saturday:
- Domingue went 2-for-2 on his field goal attempts. He also kicked three extra points.
- Dickson averaged 52.7 yards per punt, and one of his six punts was a beautiful 63-yard kick.
- Becker forced touchbacks on five of his seven kickoffs. He averaged 64 yards per kickoff.
The kickers’ performances did not go unnoticed.
“What we have (is a) Champion Club, and I put all three of our kickers in,” Texas head coach Charlie Strong said. “It’s good to see our kicking game and our kickers coming in and playing as well as they played the other night.”
At. 47.9 yards per punt, Dickson is the nation’s second-best punter. Domingue’s 11 field goals are tied for second in the Big 12. (Oklahoma State senior Ben Grogan has a three-kick lead over Domingue, West Virginia’s Mike Molina and Kansas State’s Matthew McCrane).
