People react to Rio robbery claims by Ryan Lochte and Longhorn swimmers

Posted August 18th, 2016

Two days ago was a simpler time for Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. It was a time where all he had to tweet about was re-coloring that terrible dye job — just one of his many questionable acts.

Now, he and three other U.S. swimmers — including Longhorns Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen — are in hot water. ABC News is reporting that Lochte and Feigen have been indicted for providing a false report to police. Conger and Georgia junior Gunnar Bentz told police that Lochte fabricated the story about being robbed at gunpoint.

Since #LochteGate broke within the last 48 hours, people on social media have been having a field day. Just ype “Lochte” into the Twitter search bar and the feed is loaded with news stories, outrage and a whole lot of memes.

Some celebrities like Rainn Wilson from “The Office” and Seth Meyers weighed in on the subject:

Texans had some jokes, too.

Many people tweeted that they don’t find the Lochte scandal entertaining, referring to people’s criticism of American gymnast Gabby Douglas earlier last week.

Some people took to Twitter in defense of Lochte — some in jest and some seriously.

And most tweets were just downright amusing.
