Texas recruiting trail: 2016 commits enter next round

There are 76 days until players join Charlie Strong’s next recruiting class on national signing day, and Texas recruits have entered the postseason nationwide.

Newcomers:

Andrew Fitzgerald, defensive end, Flower Mound Marcus (Texas)

Andrew Fitzgerald, a three-star recruit from Flower Mound Marcus, committed to Texas earlier this month. Fitzgerald has helped Marcus to a 10-1 record and last week beat Fossil Ridge 57-14 in the bi-district round. Marcus plays Mansfield on Friday in the area round.

Denzel Okafor, offensive lineman, Lewisville (Texas)

Okafor is a 6-foot-4-inchesd and 290 pound offensive lineman who committed last week.

The Lewisville Farmers missed the playoffs this season with a 4-6 record.

Lonestar recruits

DeMarco Boyd, linebacker, Gilmer High School

Boyd helped Gilmer to a 40-36 win over Pleasant Grove in bi-district last week. The Buckeyes now play Mexia on Friday in the area round. Boyd is a two-way player and has 11 rushing touchdowns. Take a look at this 36-yard run against Pleasant Grove:

Shane Buechele, quarterback, Arlington Lamar High School

Buechele led Lamar (10-1 overall) to a 39-33 win over Abilene in the bi-district round. The senior threw three touchdown passes and 186 yards while adding 90 yards rushing with with another score. Buechele next faces El Paso Eastwood on Friday.

Obi Eboh, cornerback, Southlake Carroll High School

Eboh was on a team  that scored one of the biggest wins of the UIL playoffs when the Dragons beat 9-1 Cedar Hill in bi-district 37-33. Eboh and the Dragons now face Denton Guyer in the area round on Friday.

Reggie Hemphill-Mapps, wide receiver, Manvel High School

Manvel advanced in the UIL playoffs with a whopping 71-21 win over Channelview. The 9-2 Mavericks will likely have a tougher matchup this week with undefeated Clear Creek on Friday in the area round. Against Channelview, Hemphill-Mapps had a 37-yard touchdown reception.

Tope Imade, offensive tackle, Arlington Bowie

Arlington Bowie’s season came to an end as Odessa Permian got their “Mojo” cooking in a 49-12 win. Imade’s squad finished 6-5 this season. While we won’t have any more highlights from Imade this high school football season, we do have 515 reasons to be excited about the 6-foot-5-inch, 327 pound offensive lineman:

The out of state recruits:

Peyton Aucoin, tight end, Brother Martin High (Louisiana)

Aucoin helped his team to a 49-46 win over New Orleans Jesuit in the first round of the playoffs. Next up for Brother Martin is Catholic Baton Rouge on Friday.

Collin Johnson, wide receiver, San Jose Valley Christian High School (California)

Johnson and the 7-3 Warriors will begin the playoffs with Los Gatos on Saturday. To get excited for his upcoming playoff run, here’s his highlight video:

Malcom Roach, defensive end, Baton Rouge Madison Prep Academy (Louisiana)

The undefeated Madison Prep squad faces St. Charles Catholic in the second round of the playoffs. In case you missed it, Roach committed just this month.

Gerald Wilbon, defensive tackle, Destrehan High School (Louisiana)

Wilbon’s team remained undefeated with a 44-23 win over Denham Springs and now faces Lake Charles Barbe in the second round on Friday.
