Wednesday is about Texas trying to finish with a flurry in the 2016 recruiting class, but there’s also a key development coming out of the 2017 class.
Westlake quarterback Sam Ehlinger told the American-Statesman he plans to enroll early at Texas and begin taking classes next year at this time.
Ehlinger, a three-star prospect and the nation’s No. 9-rated quarterback according to 247Sports’ composite ratings, threw for 50 touchdowns against five interceptions in 2015 and led Westlake to state runner-up honors in Class 6A Division II. The state’s player of the year, Ehlinger threw for 3,833 yards and ran for another 1,360 with 20 touchdowns.
He is one of four 2017 commitments for the Longhorns, along with Lagaryonn Carson, a four-star defensive end from Liberty-Eylau; Damion Miller, a four-star receiver from Tyler John Tyler; and Major Tennison, a three-star tight end from Bullard.
