Jordan Pouncey spurns Tennessee, Miami for Texas

Posted February 1st, 2017

The search for another wide receiver in the 2017 recruiting class led out of state and ended in an upset. Tom Herman made a reputation out of upset wins and he can now count a recruiting win over the state of Florida.

Jordan Pouncey fills a need position for Texas. Already holding a commitment from John Tyler’s Damion Miller, Texas looked at a few options to add another playmaker to the outside. Pouncey was always a target of Herman’s staff, but he became a bigger priority once Omar Manning and Charleston Rambo decided to remain committed to previous choices.

The Longhorns found a similar prospect in the Winter Park prospect. Pouncey stands at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and was once expected to choose between Miami and Tennessee. Texas found a way during his official visit to convince Pouncey to leave home for Texas and a new regime.

Pouncey is big enough to cause mismatch issues for cornerbacks and electric enough in space to become a tough tackle for linebackers and safeties. He’ll improve as a route-runner, but he’s already a skilled receiver with elite talent after the catch.
