Meet the Longhorns: Arizona’s Bijan Robinson headlines Texas’ class in a five-star way

Posted December 18th, 2019

Bijan Robinson, running back, Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic

FYI: 5-stars; 6-0/200; No. 2-ranked RB

State ranking: 2nd

Committed: Aug. 2

What he brings to Texas’ table: Robinson is a complete running back. There’s a reason he’s the second-ranked running back in the nation, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He’s a big-bodied back capable of handling 20-plus carries between the tackles.

Tom Herman wants his offense to become the physical force of the Big 12. Adding Robinson to a backfield with Keaontay Ingram, Roschon Johnson and Jordan Whittington gives Texas multiple weapons in the running game for the 2020 season.

“He’s outstanding in every way. Not just on the field, but as a student and a teammate,” said Salpointe head coach Dennis Bene. “He is really happy and that is what matters most to me. Coach (Stan) Drayton will be a great mentor for Bijan in the coming years.”

The 6-foot, 200-pound prospect rushed for more than 2,000 yards in each of the past two seasons. He’s also added 30 career receptions in his three-year varsity career. Robinson is the highest-rated running back signed by Texas in the Herman era.

He said it: “Being versatile is the most important thing to modern running backs. NFL teams are starting to go toward the versatile backs instead of power backs who are one-dimensional. It helps the team to catch, run and block. All running backs should do all three.” — Robinson
