What he brings to Texas’ table: Goram-Welch was a one-time commitment to Oklahoma State and picked up an offer from Texas on Dec. 2. He joins four-star Vernon Broughton as the two defensive tackle commits this cycle. Both are enrolling early and hoping to crack the two-deep as freshmen under new defensive coordinator Chris Ash.

Goram-Welch is a high-motor lineman who can fit in a three- or four-man front. That’s good because the Longhorns need versatile players up front with the change at coordinator. Goram-Welch is a proven commodity at the Class 6A level, helping Longview claim the Division II title as a junior. He was a first-team all-district selection that season, ending the year with 65 tackles with 15 for loss. He improved his sack numbers as a senior, recording eight sacks in 2019 compared to five in 2018.

Goram-Welch plans to enroll early and that gives Texas another body to develop in the spring. It’s tough for big men on either side of the ball to make an immediate impact, but he should enter his freshman season with the physicality of a sophomore with a full offseason under his belt.

A new defensive coordinator means a clean slate for everybody, and that provides opportunities for Goram-Welch to earn snaps on the two-deep in 2020.
