What he brings to Texas’ table: Alford is the most versatile defensive back in the state. He can play cornerback, safety or nickel back. He was a first-team all-district selection in 2018 after recording 61 tackles and six interceptions. He helped lead Shadow Creek to a state championship game appearance in Class 5A Division I. Alford missed most of his senior season with a knee injury. He’ll be cleared for spring drills and plans to enroll in January.

Alford wants to play right away, and with Brandon Jones moving on, he’ll be in line for snaps as a freshman. There will be a spot up for grabs next to Caden Sterns in 2020 and Alford wants to make a similar impact as a freshman as the one Sterns made in 2018. The Longhorns utilize multiple safeties and Alford wants to be part of those speciality packages. He can also help on special teams.

He said it: “Growing up and playing football in Texas, who doesn’t want to be a Longhorn? It’s the Texas pride. I love the program. The coaches were consistent throughout the entire process. They stayed on me and it showed me that they really wanted me.” — Alford
