Posted June 16th, 2016

Former Texas thrower Ryan Crouser was named a semifinalist for the men’s 2016 Bowerman Award by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

Crouser, a four-time NCAA champion, is among nine other athletes competing for the honor. He tied the all-time best indoor throw when he posted a mark of 71 feet, 3 1/2 inches at the Big 12 Indoor Championship. He won his eighth Big 12 title for Texas as a result.

At the NCAA Indoor Championships Crouser finished off his career with a throw of 69-9 3/4 to win the shot put title. His efforts helped the Longhorns take a fifth place finish at the event. His indoor season earned him the USTFCCCA Field Athlete of the Year award.

Crouser is currently training for the Olympic Trials which will be held in Eugene, Ore. in July.
