Scheffler competes at World Amateur Team Championship

Scottie Scheffler shot a 73 in the first round of the World Amateur Team Championship in Riviera Maya, Mexico as Team USA finished in a tie for seventh on Wednesday.

Scheffler made three birdies on his way to shooting 2-over-par at Mayakoba El Camaleon Golf Club.

The United States shot 5-under-par and trail Scotland by five strokes. Scotland leads the 71 countries competing in the event after shooting 134, 10-under on the day.


The junior from UT is playing alongside Maverick McNealy of Stanford and Oklahoma’s Brad Dalke for Team USA. They’re tied with France, Switzerland and Japan as a team.

McNealy shot a 1-under 70 while Dalke led the United States, shooting a 4-under 67 on the day.

Adrian Meronk of Poland and Connor Syme of Scotland are tied at 6-under for the top spot on the individual leaderboard.

Second round action begins on Thursday.
