Scheffler leads U.S. in second round of World Amateur Team Championship

Texas junior Scottie Scheffler shot a 69 as he helped the United States jump five spots at the World Amateur Team Championship in Mexico on Thursday.

Scheffler carded five birdies in the second round to finish at 3-under par. That was tied for the best American score for the round. Maverick McNealy also shot a 69. Overall Scheffler is tied for 45th at 1-under.

McNealy is tied with the other American golfer, Brad Dalke, in 10th place at 4-under.


Team USA trails Australia (-19) by eight strokes for the top spot on the team leaderboard. Team USA finished the first round in a tie for seventh.

Scheffler tees off for the third round on Friday at 12:35 p.m.
