Most college basketball teams have gone away from Midnight Madness. The Texas men’s basketball team is offering a new twist on the concept at an unlikely place.
The Longhorns will hold an intrasquad scrimmage at Gregory Gym beginning at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21. Admission is free. The first 2,500 fans will receive a free T-shirt, and food will be provided to the first 500 students.
Tickets must be obtained via the Internet at www.texassports.com/tickets.
“We want to create an atmosphere this season where people are fighting to get into our games,” UT coach Shaka Smart said in a statement. “We know that if we present a product on the floor that is enthusiastic and committed to one another, we’ll attract a lot of people.
“The intention behind hosting Texas Tip-Off at Gregory Gym is for our team and fans to spend some time around each other in a close environment,” Smart added, “so we can start building a relationship with each other that will be the start to a fun and exciting basketball season.”
