Longhorns win Texas Invitational opener to remain undefeated

A 12-run first inning put the Texas Longhorns in full control as they opened the Texas Invitational with a 15-1 win over Abilene Christian on Thursday night at McCombs Field. The undefeated Longhorns improved to 11-0 with the win.
Reagan Hathaway went 2-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in while Devon Tunning went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Hathaway opened things up early with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the first to score Celina Felix, Stephanie Wong and Tunning. Tunning also had a bases clearing double later in the inning to put the Longhorns up 8-0. Four more runs crossed the plate for Texas before the inning was over.
The Longhorns had 14 hits in the game and eight Longhorns were credited with an RBI.
Tiarra Davis picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing no runs on two hits and a strikeout through 4 1/3 innings.
Allison Turner was hit with the loss, giving up eight earned runs on four hits and three walks while recording just one out.
The Longhorns will play two games on Friday as they continue to host the Texas Invitational, first against Abilene Christian at noon followed by Tulsa at 2:30 p.m.
