How about a former Longhorn, super-star actor with charismatic Texan charm for the next athletic director? Alright, alright, alright.
Following the news of Steve Patterson’s dismissal from the athletic director position at Texas after a tumultuous 22 months, the next logical question raised was who would take the high-stakes job. Amid the naturally expected suggestions, such as rehiring Deloss Dodds or bringing back former Texas football coach Mack Brown, Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey’s name popped up on Twitter. Yes, among people who have worked in a capacity of athletic position jobs, is a guy who famously was arrested in Austin while playing the bongos naked after police entered his home after smelling marijuana.

It’s no secret that McConaughey loves football. He can sometimes be seen on the sidelines before home football games…
…and has a suite at the stadium where flags are hung out from the windows to easily identify its location.
Could you imagine a Texas athletic director more comfortable in a t-shirt than suits at press conferences?
Has anyone done a photoshop yet of Matthew McConaughey at his introductory press conference as Texas AD?

How has @McConaughey not been mentioned for the Texas AD job?

Alright, alright, alright! I think all of my fellow Texas Longhorns might agree that Matthew McConaughey would make the perfect AD. #HookEm

But maybe the fans are right. Here’s a picture of McConaughey schmoozing with friends before an event with UT System Chancellor Bill McRaven and Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith. Networking should come easy to a guy whose job it is to make people believe the words coming out of his mouth.
And let’s not forget McConaughey has a successful partner ship with former coach Brown and Texas country singer Jack Ingram with their Mack, Jack and McConaughey organization.
Is the idea really that far-fetched?

(Spoiler alert: Of course, because Texas already hired an interim athletic director, Mike Perrin)
