Texas looking at favorable closing schedule in Big 12 men’s hoops

The Big 12 released the 2015-16 conference schedule for men’s basketball Thursday, and it definitely favors the Longhorns.

big12Texas struggled on the road in the closing weeks of the past two seasons. In both seasons, critical losses compounded the pressure on the team to make the NCAA Tournament.

This season, Texas will play four home games down the stretch, all against glamour opponents — West Virginia, Baylor, Oklahoma and Kansas.

In fact, a Texas team loaded with upperclassmen could get out of the gate quickly against Texas Tech, Kansas State and TCU. The first real bump in the road comes Jan. 12 at home against Georges Niang and Iowa State, the group that crushed UT in the final four minutes of a Big 12 tournament quarterfinal in March.

Circle Feb. 29 on the calendar. That’s the date the Kansas Jayhawks come to town. The game tips off at 8 p.m. and will be featured on ESPN’s “Big Monday.” It’s almost always a sellout.
