Norvell says ‘other issues’ have kept McNeal from playing

On Thursday, Texas play-caller Jay Norvell said freshman receiver DeAndre McNeal has “had some other issues that have kept him off the field.”

Norvell did not elaborate but said the issues go beyond the foot injury that kept McNeal from traveling with the team to Iowa State.

McNeal has been vocal on social media about his lack of playing time. He has no catches and has carried the ball once.

“He just has to be more consistent and understand what we’re doing and practice at a consistent level,” Norvell said. “You just don’t hand out playing time like it’s Halloween candy. You have to earn your way onto the field.”
