Jay Norvell's only full season calling plays was during 2007 at UCLA. The Bruins went 6-7 that season and the coaching staff was fired afterward.

Norvell on OC gig: ‘Things are gonna get worked out’

Posted December 1st, 2015

Texas play-caller Jay Norvell was asked what he tells recruits who are curious about his job status beyond this year. Short answer: None of them ever ask.

“Things are gonna get worked out here,” Norvell said. “There’s certain things you can control and certain things you can’t control. We have great relationships with these kids, and we tell them the truth.”

It’s believed Norvell will be calling plays for the final time this Saturday at Baylor, but that he may return next year as receivers coach. Norvell has more or less been the interim play-caller since week two when he replaced Shawn Watson.

Norvell gave a curious response to a different question about quarterback Jerrod Heard’s offseason development, saying, “I think he’ll benefit from an offseason in this system and the plays that we’re using.”

Sounds like a man who isn’t expecting change.
