Longhorns offense explodes again to lead UT past Iowa State

The Texas softball team completed the sweep of Iowa State (20-33, 1-14 Big 12) Sunday with another offensive explosion against the Cyclones.

The Longhorns (37-14, 10-7) strung together 13 hits on the way to a 10-0 run-rule victory Sunday in Ames, Iowa. Texas had a team batting average of .476 with 18 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs, during the series. The Horns also won all three games by the run-rule and outscored the Cyclones 39-5 in the three-game series.

Senior Lindsey Stephens hit her fourth home run of the weekend as part of a 3 for 4 showing at the plate. She also had a double, scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Junior Celina Felix also went 3 for 4 on Sunday with a double, run scored and two RBIs. Senior Holly Kern, junior Stephanie Wong, senior Stephanie Ceo and junior Kelli Hanzel all drove in runs on Sunday.

Junior left hander Tiarra Davis moved her record in the circle to 22-9, allowing one hit with four strikeouts in the shutout win. She also was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Texas led 6-0 after five innings and scored four in the sixth to put the mercy rule into play.

The Longhorns will close the regular season on Saturday against No. 14 Baylor at McCombs Field. The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
