Texas men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart said Monday that sophomores Kerwin Roach and Tevin Mack will remain suspended for Friday’s season opener against Incarnate Word.
Roach and Mack sat for last Wednesday’s exhibition against Angelo State for an undisclosed violation of team rules for something that happened “months ago.”
“They will be back for our second game,” Smart said. Texas will host Louisiana-Monroe on Monday.
Roach will compete with freshman Andrew Young at point guard, although both will play extensively and possibly together. Smart said the point guard position will probably be done by committee this season.
“We don’t have any guys on our team where if this guy’s in the game, then this guy can’t be in the game,” Smart said.
