Texas set to travel to Mexico during 2018 softball season
Posted August 3rd, 2017
Since it threw out its first pitch in 1997, UT has left Texas for softball games in California, Hawaii and 14 additional states.
Next up: Mexico.
Texas will head to Mexico in February for the 2018 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, the school announced on Thursday. During the second week of its softball season, the Longhorns will appear at Puerto Vallarta’s Nancy Almaraz Stadium from Feb. 15-18.
It will be the first trip outside of the country for Texas’ softball program.
Playing alongside Ole Miss, Oregon, Rutgers and Houston, Texas will participate in the latter half of the 10-team event. Georgia, James Madison, Long Beach State, Louisiana Tech and Nevada will be in Puerto Vallarta from Feb. 8-10.
Texas went 33-26 last year, and the Big 12’s fourth-place finisher was eliminated by Texas A&M at a NCAA regional tournament. Connie Clark is expected back for her 22nd season as UT’s head coach. Catcher Taylor Ellsworth, pitcher Erica Wright and outfielder Reagan Hathaway will also return.
